GUITAR BOOGIE
This song is a good example of playing the Mixolydian mode using closed (or bar chord)
fingerings. Notice that the song uses mostly one riff and treats this riff as a sequence using the
chords of a typical 12 bar pattern. This example is in the key of G, but can be played in any key. Start
with all down picking.
FINGERING
Firstly play the song as written which uses the E shape pattern for chords
1, 4 and 5.
Also use the A shape pattern for chords 1, 4 and 5.
E SHAPE PATTERN - Chords 1 and 4 will be in the same position, while
chord 5 will be 2 frets higher.
A SHAPE PATTERN - Chords 1 and 5 will be in the same position, while
chord 4 will be 2 frets lower.
KEYS
Do in different keys using both the E and A shape patterns for chords
1, 4 and 5. Especially play the popular rock keys of E, A, C, D and G.
RHYTHMS
Firstly play the song as written.
Also you can try picking each note twice using either -
(a) Straight 8’s(b) Shuffle Rhythm No.1
(b) Shuffle Rhythm No.2
PICKING
When playing either single note or double notes you can pick
(a) all down, or
(b) down and up.
