MIXOLYDIAN MODE
Bar Chord Fingerings
-
TONIC NOTE – Gives the key name, strongest note of the scale.
-
ALTERNATE NOTE – Same as the next string open. Sometimes we play the fingered note,
other times we play the open note.
-
MAIN NOTES - Most riffs use only the low notes of a scale.
Notice that the main notes are in the same shape or pattern as they were for the
key of E. This time though the pattern is moved one string towards the floor.
A Shape Mixolydian Mode.
This fingering belongs to the A bar chord.
Both the chord and the scale share string 5 as their tonic note.
The chord and the scale are built in front of the tonic note
(or musically higher than the tonic note).
The musical name of the chord is C, and of course so is C the musical name for the scale.
