Quite often we can connect bass notes that
aren’t the tonic notes e.g. an interesting run
between G and Em is on string 4 using the idea of
different notes on the same string. Here is the
bass run added in with the tonic note bass run.
“Standout” Bass Run -
Another common bass run is between G and C.
The obvious connecting bass notes to use would
be A and B as used in these examples.
In hidden style some songs may use the basic
chords (G and C) though this may have some
clashy sounds because the bass notes don’t
belong naturally to the chord, while other songs
will use chords that have the bass notes as part
of their natural sound. The B bass note is quite
often left with the G chord because the B note is
a natural part of G. The A bass note is often
played with the Am chord
