CHORD SHAPES
The guitar is often referred to as a pattern or
shape instrument.
This means that patterns or shapes are
continually repeated on the guitar. The same
chord shapes can be used over and over to get
different names. Remember we can use our
shapes three ways - move them along the guitar,
move them across the guitar and slightly change
the shape.
Here is a study of chord shapes that give us
all the different named chords. The study is
based on the major chord shapes and the
shape of C#m. You will see that these basic
shapes give us all the chords. The basic shape
is either repeated exactly along or across
the guitar, or the shape is slightly modified.
B major isn't used as it is really an A shape.
