THE BOX
A small part any pentatonic scale (either the
minor pentatonic or the major pentatonic) can be
played as a separate scale.
It is called the box.
The box is that part of the scale that uses
fingers 1 and 3.
A good way to remember the box is by these
rules -
(a) the box is always three strings long (though
you often run out of strings),
(b) the box uses fingers 1 and 3,
(c) the notes are in a straight line of frets
.
The three strings of the box.

1. The Box Shapes.
Another great thing about the boxes is that they
have exactly the same shape for both minor and
major pentatonic. The only the tonic note is in a
different place.
The tonic note is shown by
Minor Pentatonic – tonic is on the middle string (finger 3) of the box.
